It was done without their desire or consent, unlike the warriors of Marley who make a more deliberate decision to pursue that path. One thing that is interesting about both Armin and Eren where they are both currently is that neither of them chose to be titans to be weapons. Maybe both Armin and Mikasa have been inspired by Eren's nihilistic streak when dealing with the cruelty of the world, or maybe they were tapping into a darker side of themselves that Eren is more willing to embrace. It's tough to quantify as a specific ability that the Attack Titan has that other titans don't, so that makes me wonder if it is special in some other way.Ĭlick to shrink.That Armin observation is interesting he has talked about how some times people have to become monsters to defeat monsters and has gone to some cold dark places to do what he feels needs to be done. Eren already has some of those qualities, to fight ruthlessly against would-be oppressors, but also as a titan he seems to be able to keep pressing on through sheer determination power of will. Kruger mentions how it's always been a titan that has fought for freedom, but I wonder if that is due to the people who have acquired it (or whom it chose, if there is some sort of pre-destiny to it) or if it is a quality inherent to the Attack Titan that manifests in it's owners. On a related note, I wonder if the Attack Titan has a certain type of influence over Eren that he isn't aware of. I know an anecdotal story from Kenny won't explain how it works, especially since he was in the dark about how much of it worked, but I think that thematically, it points to a knowledge and a burden being passed down in the Reiss family and Eren seems burdened with only a fraction of the knowledge of the past through the titans he has eaten and the memories he has been able to recall. Kenny also wonders if he was in the position of power that they had if he'd believe the same things about peace. Kenny talks about how after Frieda ate Uri, she preached about peace just like him and by looking in her eyes, he could see how he lived on in her memories, just like he said he would. There were a couple moments in season 3 that made me think that could possibly be the case.

Maybe it that is the case, the difference between someone like Eren and a royal is that Eren wouldn't have full access to all the memories like he may if he was of royal blood.
Click to shrink.Eren definitely seems to have a sort of "thousand mile stare" in moments like the end of season 3 like the way we see Uri, but I assume it's just due to all that Eren has lived and the memories he's inherited more than being mind controlled, but I do wonder if the Founding Titan specifically mind controls all the others in the royal blood line that eat the Founding Titan, or if it is in their inheriting of all the memories of the violence and war of the past that brings them to the same conclusion to avoid war at all costs.
